Bar Council of the Turks and Caicos Islands

Welcome to the website of the Turks and Caicos Bar Council, the elected representative body of the professional association of attorneys practising in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  The Bar Council has been responsible for the policy, control and management of the Bar Association of the Islands since it was first created in 1997. Since then, as the Islands’ economy and population have grown and diversified greatly, the Bar Association has also diversified, including professional expertise from around the world and locally, serving the interests of overseas investors and the local community.

As a British Overseas Territory with its own legal and cultural heritage, the Turks and Caicos Islands have a unique legal system consisting mainly of English common law and local Ordinances passed by the House of Assembly and enacted by H.E. the Governor. The obligation on legal professionals to uphold the interest of their client without regard for their own interest or to any consequence to themselves or to other persons, subject always to a primary duty to the court and to the law is as essential a duty of a legal professional now as it ever has been.

The Bar Council and members of the Bar Association are committed to being vigilant in safeguarding fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual in accordance with the Constitution in the public interest.
